7.1-magnitude earthquake hits New Zealand

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the islands of New Zealand on Monday.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake had a depth of 49 kilometers or 30 miles.

The natural disaster hit the Kermadec Islands, located Northeast of the nation’s North Island and Southwest of Tonga.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), there is no tsunami threat from the strong earthquake.
