HIGH-ranking government officials welcomed the 78 Thai nationals as they arrived at the Don Muang Airport in Bangkok.
Caretaker Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha and other high-ranking officials greeted 40 women and 38 men at the airport.
Gen. Prayut expressed his gratitude to all officials and agencies for their assistance in evacuating the citizens.
He also thanked Saudi Arabia and Egypt for participating in the evacuation efforts.
Several evacuees were exhausted after nearly two days of traveling via bus, a ship, and a plane but expressed their joy and relief upon returning home.
The second batch of evacuees will arrive in the country on Saturday.
