98 Grade 12 students and four teachers from Monlimar Development Academy Inc., Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, toured the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on March 24, 2025. The tour aimed to broaden their understanding of STEM fields and how they apply to real-world industries.
As part of their tour, the participants were introduced to DOST-PTRI as the premier textile research and development arm of the DOST, gaining insights into its mandates, programs, and services. They also engaged in a brief discussion on Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF), natural textile fibers, and circularity in textiles.
To deepen their understanding of natural textile production, the students and faculty observed the yarn production process at the yarn-spinning facility.
They also visited the weaving facility, where various handloom weaving machines are utilized for training and processing services at the DOST-PTRI Innovation Center for Yarns & Textiles (ICYT).
As part of the Institute’s Textile Academy, this educational tour bridged classroom learning with real-world industry practices, expanding students’ appreciation of STEM and cultural heritage through innovation.
