IN the latest surge of drone attacks on Moscow, the defense ministry on Wednesday reported that the nation’s air defense systems were able to neutralize two drones that were headed to the capital, Moscow.
In a statement, the ministry said, “At night, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack by drones was thwarted over Moscow Region.”
According to reports, unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs were shot down to the south of the capital, while another was destroyed over the M1 Highway.
In a video posted on telegram, security footage reportedly shows the moment one of the drones was taken down wherein a flash was seen and a sound of an explosion was heard.
It can be noted that this is not the first reported incident of a drone attack, and such UAVs have been used throughout the Russia-Ukraine conflict by both sides.
Meanwhile, a powerful blast rocked the Zagorsk optical-mechanical plant in the town of Segiyev Posad outside of Moscow, prompting people in the facility to evacuate.
Reports say the optical equipment factory designs and produces optical and electronic equipment for military purposes, health care, and manufacturing.
Russia’s ministry of emergency situations said 25 people have been injured in the blast, of this number, 2 have been hospitalized.
Russian media reports citing witnesses said that the explosion shattered windows in nearby buildings, with ceilings collapsing in office buildings.
