South Korean police chief charged over 2022 Halloween crush incident

IN October 2022, a huge crowd crush occurred during a Halloween event in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea, which claimed 159 young lives.

And now, South Korean Police Chief Kim Kwang-ho, was accused of failing to ensure that there were enough police officers in Itaewon when the incident happened.

Kim Kwang-ho is the head of the Seoul Metropolitan Agency, and he was off duty when the incident occurred.

Around 137 officers had been deployed at Itaewon that time.

Meanwhile, more than 100-K people had gathered in the area on November 29, 2022, and the crowd crush left 159 people killed, and many more injured.

To recall, a report was released in January last year, indicating that South Korea’s local municipal and emergency service officials were responsible for the poor emergency response and poor planning.
