Thousands march across Türkiye, calling for ceasefire in Gaza

PROTESTERS marched through the streets, showing solidarity with the people of Gaza and protesting Israel’s actions in the Middle East.

The demonstrations, held in major cities like Istanbul and Ankara, reflected growing frustration and sorrow over the conflict. Many participants demanded an immediate ceasefire.

“The main purpose of our presence here today is to show that we stand with the people of Gaza in the events that began on October 7 (last year),” said Mehmet Kilic, Protester.

“I want the war to stop; it has been a year now, and we are all very sad,” said Duygu Soylu, Protester.

In Istanbul’s Fatih District, large crowds gathered, chanting for peace. Local resident Omer Karabag voiced his hope for an end to foreign involvement, saying,

”If Israel cuts its cooperation with the U.S., freedom will come to the Middle East, God willing. We want a free Palestine, we want a peaceful world, and we want a world without war,” said Omer Karabag, Protester.

Relations between Türkiye and Israel have worsened since the conflict resumed last year. In May, Türkiye suspended all trade with Israel, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has consistently condemned Israel for worsening the conflict. He reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.

According to Gaza health authorities, the Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks has risen to 41,870.

As the conflict in Gaza continues, protests in Türkiye and around the world are expected to grow, with demonstrators pushing for an end to violence and a peaceful resolution for the Palestinian people.
