SUMUKO ang isang field commander ng Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) at limang pang miyembro nito sa Maguindanao.
Dahilan ng mga sumukong rebelde ang pagkadismaya at pagod na nararanasan sa gitna ng pinaigting na operasyon ng militar sa pagtugis sa teroristang komunistang grupo.
“They belong to the Kagui Karialan faction operating in North Cotabato and Maguindanao provinces,” ayon kay Lt. Col. Edwin Alburo, commander ng 40th Infantry Battalion (40IB) ng militar.
Ayon kay Alburo, boluntaryong sumuko ang mga armadong kalalakihan sa 40IB headquarters sa Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.
“The sustained military operations of the Army-led Joint Task Force (JTF) Central, coupled with the unwavering support of the local government unit (LGU) in maintaining peace and order, influenced the BIFF combatants to yield to the government, with continously weakened the extremist group,” ani Alburo.
Nadismaya aniya ang sumukong grupo dahil sa kapabayaan ng kanilang mga lider na matugunan ang kanilang mga pangangailangan gaya ng pagkain at iba pang panustos.
Bitbit ng mga dating rebelde sa kanilang pagsuko ang isang M16 rifle, isang Ultimax light machine gun, isang M14 rifle, dalawang homemade sniper rifles, at isang rocket-propelled grenade launcher na may ammunition.
Pinurihan ni Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, commander ng 6th Infantry Division (6ID) at chief ng JTF Central, ang inisyatibo ng mga militar sa mapayapang pagsuko ng mga armadong kalalakihan.
“The surrender of BIFF field commander and his members is a clear manifestation that their organization is dwindling and on the brink of defeat,” ayon kay Uy.
Nagpasalamat din ang heneral sa mga opisyal ng Datu Paglas at iba pang mga LGU sa probinsiya sa tulong na mapananatili ang katiwasayan ng mga komunidad.
“Through our intensified collaboration with the LGUs in the municipal and provincial level, along with the implementation of the provincial government program for the surrender of rebels, we are hopeful to encourage other BIFF members who are still hiding to surrender and start living normal lives with their families,” ani Uy.
