ABU Dhabi held a special ceremony to honor the lives of three Emirati troops killed in Somalia.
Three members of the UAE’s armed forces and a Bahraini military officer have died while on a mission to train Somali troops.
A newly trained Somali soldier opened fire inside a military camp in the capital city of Mogadishu, killing four and injuring two others.
The Al-Shabaab group considered one of Al-Qaeda’s strongest affiliates claimed responsibility for the attack. The armed group opposes UAE’s support for Somalia and has been designated a terrorist group by the U.S. in 2008.
Al-Qaeda has waged a deadly war against Somalia’s government and its foreign supporters since 2006.
The UAE is coordinating with the government of Somalia in investigating the armed attack.
