THE president of Argentina has vowed stronger ties with Israel, he also condemned Hamas during a holocaust memorial held in Buenos Aires.
Argentina’s President Javier Milei expressed his commitment to enhancing ‘diplomatic, commercial and friendship ties’ with Israel in his speech for the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust in Buenos Aires.
Milei joined other attendees participating in the memorial service.
“Today, we commemorate the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, one of the greatest atrocities in memory against the Jewish people and against all of humanity, an atrocity with survivors who are among us today who, after enduring segregation, and discrimination, including the horror of the concentration camps. They came to Argentina seeking to rebuild their lives away from persecution and pain,” said Javier Milei, President, Argentina.
Milei and others lighted candles as a gesture of honor and remembrance for the victims.
He addressed the ongoing war in the Middle East, and condemned the actions of Hamas.
“Many countries relapse into the same silence, a silence that stuns, Argentina does not remain silent in the face of the Hamas clod and demands the immediate release of all kidnapped civilians, including our 11 fellow patriots,” added Milei.
Reflecting on history, Milei drew parallels to the Holocaust era.
“Under my mandate, I commit to continue working with the organizations of the Argentine Jewish community to achieve a society that is more respectful of cultural and religious diversity.”
“I also commit to strengthening our diplomatic, commercial and friendship ties with the State of Israel, in fact, in the coming weeks I will be traveling to the Holy Land which will constitute a new chapter in the brotherhood between our two nations,” he also added.
The President of Argentina plans to visit the Holy Land in the coming weeks,
Meanwhile, reports say Milei’s first trip abroad as leader was to New York City, where he visited the grave of a well-known Orthodox Jewish rabbi.
