At least 1 dead as Texas battles 2nd largest-wildfire in state history

1 person was killed amid the rapidly spreading wildfire in Texas.

The blaze marks the second-largest wildfire in Texas history, with hundreds of thousands of acres of land consumed in the northern part of the city of Amarillo.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for sixty counties.

The fire has intensified due to dry soil, high temperatures, and strong winds in the area. Hundreds of firefighters and first responders are currently deployed to combat the blaze.

The National Weather Service has also issued warnings to residents near Amarillo, advising them to stay indoors with their pets due to the poor air quality in the city.

Over four thousand five hundred households are estimated to be without electricity in Texas.
