SOME government agencies are currently pushing for an investigation into the sudden increase of Chinese students in the province of Cagayan.
The purpose: to determine whether these individuals are actually students or if they pose a threat to national security.
But for former Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque, the government’s push for this matter is considered an alarming move.
“Let’s just think about it, if we continue with this policy, 11 million Filipinos are working because we don’t have enough jobs here in the Philippines. If China retaliates and also says that Filipinos should be considered as enemies, what will happen to Filipinos in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Macau, and in various other parts of the world?” said Atty. Harry Roque, Former Presidential Spokesperson.
Roque also pointed out that the current government is inciting Filipinos to be angry at the Chinese.
“There is no difference now in what we are doing, inciting anger against the Chinese, with what happened to the Jews in Germany, where their government incited them to be despised, to be angry, and to be killed. That is not part of Filipino behavior. Our behavior is really to be hospitable to our visitors,” Roque stated.
Roque believes that the amplification of this issue is part of the government’s policy to divert the attention of the Filipino people from the country’s real problems.
The former Palace Spokesman also believes that the reason Chinese students are coming to the Philippines is to improve their English language skills, which they can utilize in business.
