THREE space-tracking radars will be set up in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States as part of a trilateral security partnership known as AUKUS.
The three allied countries announced the decision to host and operate the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) initiative this past weekend.
The next-generation ground-based sensor is being funded by the U.S. Space Force and is currently being developed by American aerospace and defense technology company Northrop Grumman.
The partnership will allow the three nations 24/7 capability to enhance the ability of the said nations to track, identify, and characterize space objects.
The advanced radar will also support space defense initiatives, space traffic management, and global surveillance of military and commercial satellites.
The initiative comes at a time when nations race to conquer space and acquire the latest weapons.
The first radar site is expected to start operations in 2026 while all three sites are projected to be completed by 2030.
