A bedridden man from Thailand who was forced to physically appear by local authorities to renew his expired nat’l ID has passed away just a day after undergoing a process exhausting enough for a person with declining health.
Facebook user Prangton Jaiboon shared the details surrounding the tragic death of his ailing father.
According to her, district authorities insisted her father should be physically present for the ID renewal procedure despite her explanations about her father’s declining health.
The authorities of Pathumthani province maintained that physical presence is required at the district office regardless of the patient’s condition–be that bedridden, in serious ailment, wheelchair-bound, immobile, on life-support, or assisted breathing devices.
Ambulance service would be provided in case a patient is unable to transport himself.
Disabled persons are required to follow the same regulations.
The renewed ID was left unused as her father died a day after visiting the district office.
