Biden holds talks over the phone with Macron following China visit

FRENCH President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Joe Biden held talks over the phone earlier this week – the first conversation between the two leaders after Macron’s fairly recent visit to China.

This comes after President Macron advised the European Union not to become followers of America when concerning the dispute between China and Taiwan.

On the same day Thursday, Biden also had a phone call conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. It can be recalled that both Macron and Von Der Leyen both traveled to China recently and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In Biden’s separate conversations with the 2 European leaders, he discussed their visit to China and apparently reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

“They reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait,” a statement from the White House.

Similarly, providing continued support for Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia was high on the discussion.

However, contrary to what was issued by the white house, a statement from the Elysee Palace reads,

“President Macron shared the results of his visit to Beijing and Guangzhou. China has a role to play, in the medium term, in helping to end the conflict in compliance with the purposes and principles of the UN charter. The two leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to engage with the Chinese authorities to that end” said Elysée Palace.

Reports also say that Macron stood by his words when he said France is not a vassal of the united states despite it being an ally.

“Being an ally does not mean being a vassal,”  said President Emmanuel Macron, France.

Meanwhile, the leaders also discussed the extremely troubling situation in Sudan.
