FORMER President Jair Bolsonaro‘s trial has begun in Brazil’s highest electoral court in Brasilia.
Bolsonaro is facing trial on charges of political abuse and misuse of public media.
The allegations stem from a meeting where Bolsonaro allegedly spread false information about Brazil’s electoral system during his re-election campaign.
The case started with a lawsuit brought by the Democratic Labor Party of Brazil against Bolsonaro and his 2022 election running mate Walter Braga Netto.
Meanwhile, in the recent court session held on Thursday, both sides presented their arguments, as of now, the trial has been adjourned until next week, with a possibility of an extension if more information is requested.
Bolsonaro did not attend the start of the trial in person.
Meanwhile, reports say that the former president is facing a possible 8-year ban from political office if convicted.
