AS the chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go stressed the importance of prioritizing one’s health.
On Friday, April 26, Go’s Malasakit Team assisted indigents at Barangay Malasila gymnasium in Makilala, North Cotabato. In his video message during the activity, Go encouraged the public to utilize the services offered by the 163 Malasakit Centers across the country.
The senator noted that the pandemic has highlighted the importance of valuing one’s health. He encouraged any resident with health issues to visit Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Kidapawan City, where a Malasakit Center is available to assist with their hospital bills.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which aims to help poor and indigent patients through the various medical assistance programs of government placed conveniently in Malasakit centers inside qualifed public hospitals in accordance with the law.
“Ang Malasakit Center one-stop shop na iyan. Nasa loob na ng ospital ang apat na ahensya ng gobyerno ang Philhealth, PCSO, DOH at DSWD na handang tumulong sa inyo hanggang mabayaran ang inyong pagpapagamot. Lapitan niyo lang ang Malasakit Center,” explained Go, also known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassion for the poor.
Meanwhile, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed shirts, vitamins, and snacks to 600 disadvantaged residents. They also gave away a watch, a mobile phone, a pair of shoes, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select recipients.
Through the initiative of Mayor Armando Quibod, the beneficiaries also received financial assistance from the government.
“Ako ay inyong kapitbahay na si Bong Go na nandito para magserbisyo sa inyong lahat. Hindi ako mangangako, magtatrabaho lang ako para sa bawat Pilipino dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos,” he said.
