SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go partnered with Mayor Cristy Angeles and assisted displaced workers in Tarlac City on Friday, April 26. In his message, Go emphasized the critical need for continued government assistance for the poor, especially those struggling with economic hardships.
In his pursuit of stronger support systems for the impoverished, Senator Go introduced Senate Bill No. 420, which seeks to create more job opportunities for low-income rural families.
This bill proposes the institutionalization of the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), designed to offer temporary jobs to displaced workers in rural regions. Under the supervision of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), REAP is intended to be a crucial support mechanism for qualified rural residents, helping them achieve economic stability.
Meanwhile, Go’s Malasakit Team assisted 177 displaced workers at the Tarlac city gymnasium. All beneficiaries received snacks, vitamins, masks, and basketball and volleyball balls, while select recipients received shoes and a mobile phone.
In partnership with Senator Go and the local government, representatives from DOLE likewise held an orientation for the eligible recipients of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. This initiative is part of a wider effort to assist displaced workers, providing them with temporary employment.
Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, extended further assistance to the beneficiaries who may require medical assistance via the Malasakit Center at Tarlac Provincial Hospital in the city.
As the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, Go cited that the Department of Health has reported that more than ten million Filipinos have already benefitted from the said program. To date, there are 163 Malasakit Centers nationwide.
Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service for the poor.
