BRAZILIAN President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reportedly underwent another medical procedure on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, to address the pain he has been experiencing in his leg and hip in recent months.
Lula received the treatment at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Brasilia, and according to local media reports, a medical team from the Health Center in the City of Sao Paulo traveled to the capital to attend to him.
The team included cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho, the president’s private doctor, and two orthopedists.
On the other hand, President Lula’s official schedule for that day was not disclosed, but it was confirmed that some meetings were canceled due to his medical needs. Additionally, two commitments planned for the following day were rescheduled: One with the president-elect of Paraguay and another with international journalists.
The procedure Lula underwent is known as a “hip infiltration,” where medication is directly injected into the affected area to alleviate the pain.
However, despite this treatment, the pain persisted, prompting Lula to announce that he will undergo hip surgery in October to address the issue.
The medical condition likely causing his pain is osteoarthritis, a condition characterized by the wear of the cartilage that covers the joint, leading to inflammation and discomfort.
Lula’s doctors believe that surgery, involving the replacement of the affected bone with a prosthesis, is the most effective treatment for his condition.
