Cambodia reports more cases human cases of bird flu in 2024

H5N1 human avian influenza has infected more people in Cambodia just a few months after a bird flu outbreak was declared near the border with Vietnam in November.

The first case was a three-year-old boy from southeast Cambodia who became the first human case announced on the 26th of January.

It happened after investigators discovered that chickens and ducks had died in the patient’s village and around his house about 10 days earlier.

Two more cases of human H5N1 avian flu infections have been reported this week.

All patients came from different regions and were exposed to sick poultry before they started noticing symptoms.

The bird flu outbreak affected 23 countries in 2023 and caused a wave of concern among affected countries.

More than 60 cases of human infection with influenza A or H5N1, including 41 deaths, have been reported from Cambodia since 20033 until today.
