China emerges as top market for foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand

CHINA emerged as the top source market for foreign tourists in Thailand in the first two months of 2024.

Thailand’s tourism industry showed promising progress after the country welcomed six million tourists in January and February.

Thai entrepreneurs benefited from the influx of tourists and generated around 290.92 billion baht in revenue in the first eight weeks of the year.

China was the top source market for foreign tourists, followed by Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, and India.

Thailand welcomes an average of 109,123 foreign arrivals per day.

Of the nearly six million foreign tourists that arrived in Thailand, more than 1.1 million came from China alone.

The figure marked a significant increase of 48% compared to the same period in 2023.

The government of Thailand set an ambitious target of 40 million tourists by the end of 2024, in contrast to the 28 million visitors received last year.

Thailand expects tourism arrivals to further increase next month when the country’s permanent visa waiver with China takes effect on March 1.
