China sanctions U.S. Defense companies after arms sales to Taiwan

CHINA said that the new U.S. arms sale to Taiwan, and sanctions to Chinese businesses and individuals were imposed under various pretexts.

And in a form of retaliation, China sanctioned 5 U.S. Defense industry companies, namely Bae Systems Land and Armaments, Alliant Techsystems Operations, Aerovironment, Viasat, and Data Link Solutions in response to the approval of a 300 million dollars arms sales to Taiwan.

Beijing said the move is in response to what it called as gravely wrong actions taken by Washington, and in accordance with China’s anti-foreign sanctions law.

The statement further read: the countermeasures consist of freezing the properties of those companies in China, including their movable and immovable property, and prohibiting organizations and individuals in China from transactions and cooperation with them.

The countermeasures consist of freezing the properties of those companies in China, including their movable and immovable property, and prohibiting organizations and individuals in China from transactions and cooperation with them.

The sanctions are another cause for escalation of tensions between the two superpower rivals ahead of the already-controversial presidential and parliamentary elections set to take place on January 13 in Taiwan.

Aside from arms sales to Taiwan, Washington previously also sanctioned some Chinese businesses and individuals.
