China solves 391,000 telecom, online fraud in 2023

CHINESE security officials hailed the successful crackdown of around 391,000 cases of telecom and online fraud last year.

China’s Ministry of Public Security last year launched several law enforcement campaigns targeting telecom and online fraud.

Authorities arrested about 79,000 suspects in 2023 as part of the operation.

This includes 263 persons who financed, led, or were in charge of doing fraudulent activities.

The ministry also engaged in face-to-face discussions with almost 14 million people at risk of becoming victims of fraud.

Moreover, Chinese agencies intercepted 2.75-B fraudulent calls, 2.28-B fraudulent messages, and $46-B worth of funds related to fraud cases.

China also deployed task forces to countries including Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos for international law enforcement cooperation.
