TO empower and develop the next generation in Davao City, the 1st Muslim Youth Congress was held at the Al-Raddadi Suites on November 19.
The Muslim Youth Congress, which brought together 85 young leaders from six tribes and Balik Islam in Davao City, was organized by the city’s Task Force Davao in cooperation with the Davao City Muslim Affairs Office and Youth Sectoral Council.
The event’s goal was to equip young Muslim leaders with critical, thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills so that they can positively influence their communities.
Task Force Davao Commander Col. Darren Comia, in his message, said the gathering’s main objective was to encourage Muslim youth participation, particularly in peace and security.
“We cannot do this alone. We need the help, support, cooperation, and collaboration of the different sectors of the society, including our youth,” he added.
The newly-appointed Davao City Muslim Youth Sectoral Representative Sittie Aysha Cariga Pumbaya, in the interview with Madayaw, said the summit was one way for young people to participate in activities and discussions that support peace and order in Davao City.
“As our beloved Mayor Sebastian Baste Duterte wants to uplift the Muslim community, we, his people, are always behind him. And it’s a way for us to show the youth that their voices are being heard, their voice matters, and that whatever they think can actually be implemented through the Davao City youth sector,” she said.
She said they are also looking forward to having a 5-day Muslim Youth Summit next year. CIO
