THE Davao City employment rate has increased based on the Philippine Statistics Authority Labor Force Survey.
From just 93.70 percent employment rate in 2021, the rate increased to 95.80 percent in 2022, and 95.90 percent in 2023.
The agency has yet to release its 2024 data per locality.
The increase was due to the continuous job facilitation activities of the city through the Davao Public Employment Services Office (PESO).
The PESO facilitated the employment of 105,719 jobseekers from 2022 to 2024.
The data showed that a total of 148,844 job vacancies for local employment were opened during the same period.
In 2022, there were 75,733 job vacancies, with 37,721 applicants hired. In 2023, 67,562 job vacancies were available, leading to the hiring of 34,870 applicants. In 2024, 55,949 job vacancies were posted, with 33,128 applicants hired.
PESO head Lilibeth Pantinople, in a recent interview with Madayaw, stated that they primarily connect jobseekers to employment opportunities through job fairs and other PESO programs. Some beneficiaries were also placed through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
In 2024, the Department of Labor and Employment Region XI recognized PESO for its Outstanding Job Fair Implementation, as it successfully conducted job fair initiatives, resulting in the highest percentage of Hired-On-The-Spot placements.
PESO was also awarded the Outstanding Placement and Achievement Award for achieving a placement rate of 90 percent or higher from January to October 2024.
Additionally, PESO actively utilizes the PESO Employment Information System (PEIS), where companies list job vacancies, and employers can access details of applicants who have applied for positions.
Pantinople shared their plan to establish the Barangay Employment Services Offices (BESOs) to improve the dissemination of job vacancy information in the barangay level.
PESO also maintains the Davao City PESO Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/dcpeso), where job vacancies are posted, and applicants can register online to apply. CIO
