Davao City readies for intensified vaccination vs. pertussis

A few days shy from the official kick-off of the weeklong Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunization (PIRI), the CHO has readied its implementors for the weeklong activity.

Davao City Health Office Technical Division Head Dr. Julinda Acosta, during the I-Speak Media forum, said that personnel in barangays and health district offices were given orientation to ensure the success of the event, which will be on April 22-27. The activity will be held in the barangays and temporary vaccination posts all over the city.

“Next week we will conduct what we call the periodic intensification of routine immunization. Actually, we have been meeting with barangay health officials and the district health staff including doctors,” Acosta said, adding that on Thursday, they also conducted orientation with barangay captains in Toril A and B, Tugbok and Baguio Districts. Another set of orientation held on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Acosta said that the PIRI is intended for 0-23 months old, especially children whose primary series of vaccines are not yet complete.

She advised parents, and guardians to check the immunization cards of their children.

The CHO was prompted to conduct PIRI to ensure that children will be protected from pertussis, which is a vaccine-preventable disease. CIO
