A passenger plane operated by Brazilian regional airline Voepass crashed in the city of Vinhedo, São Paulo, on Friday, killing dozens of people on board.
The plane, which was en route from Cascavel, Paraná, to Guarulhos International Airport, was carrying 57 passengers and four crew members when the plane crashed on Friday. All of them died.
The 62nd victim, Constantino The Maia, was not initially listed as a boarded passenger due to a technical issue with the airline’s system.
Videos captured by locals showing the plane spiraling down have fueled speculation about the crash’s cause, although official confirmation is still pending.
The black box flight recorders have been recovered and sent to Brasília for analysis as authorities investigate the cause of the tragedy.
Firefighters, military police, and civil defense workers have sealed off the crash site, where the plane fell onto houses in the Capela de Vinhedo neighborhood. No one on the ground was injured.
The aircraft’s black boxes, containing crucial voice recordings and flight data, are now under examination, with investigators focusing on possible causes, including ice formation on the wings and body.
Meanwhile, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has declared a state of mourning from Friday to Sunday and called for a minute of silence in honor of the victims.
Authorities are providing full support to the families of the victims, many of whom have traveled from Paraná to São Paulo.
Efforts are also underway to identify the remains, with the help of dental records and x-rays provided by relatives.
Psychologists and medical professionals have been deployed on-site to assist families during this tragic time, ensuring they receive the care and support they need.
