WHAT could be the nation’s first case of a robot committing suicide has been reported in South Korea.
A civil servant cyborg that had been assisting residents in Gumi city with municipal tasks for almost a year, reportedly jumped and crashed itself down a plight of stairs for an unexplained reason.
The robot was found unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs last week, with a team tasked to investigate the incident.
The cyborg worked from 9 AM to 6 PM and had its own public service card.
Unlike other robots, it knows how to use the elevator and can move itself between floors.
Pieces of the shattered robot had been collected for analysis.
The incident sparked a nationwide debate in what many called the country’s first robot suicide and social media users questioned why the robot behaved that way.
According to the International Federation of Robotics, South Korea has the highest robot density in the world, with one robot for every ten employees.
