THE “Pamilyang Dabawenyo, Disiplinado” bagged this year’s first-place award for the Hulagway sa Araw ng Dabaw 2024.
The photo by Excelsio Hiponia Jr. depicted a family that stayed within the designated area and was excitedly watching the parade during the Parada Dabawenyo Event.
It also shows the marshal’s efforts in keeping the area organized for the convenience of the families and other spectators and for them to fully enjoy the parade.
According to the judges, the photo shined above the rest because of its unique composition that highlights the family in the photo.
The photo also shows that Dabawenyos are not afraid of those officials implementing discipline as they enjoy the festivities of the Araw.
Such is in line with this year’s theme of the contest which is: Ang Disiplinadong Dabawenyo, murespeto sa balaod ug isig ka-tawo”
Meanwhile, also bagging the major awards are “Batang Dabawenyo” by John Denry Salazar for second place and “Colors of Smooth and Gentle” by Ian Russel Requiso for third place.
One of Hulagway’s judges explained that the photo Batang Dabawenyo shined because it shows that even kids know how to follow simple rules, and these children understand what the rules are for.
The third-place winner, Colors of Smooth and Gentle, also made it to the top due to its good composition, and ability to capture the grace and elegance of dancers.
The photo “Pagsunod sa Balaod” also bagged the Dabawenyo D.C Plinado Award. It depicts Dabawenyos crossing the pedestrian sidewalk under the guidance of traffic personnel.
The photo entries for the Hulagway sa Araw ng Dabaw Contest were taken from March 1-17, during the 87th Araw ng Dabaw Activities.
The Hulagway sa Araw ng Dabaw contest is organized by the City Information Office and every year, it rewards photographers in Davao City for capturing the essence of the city events from the Araw ng Dabaw, Kadayawan, and Pasko Fiesta.
