THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has imposed penalties reaching 100 million in its anti-colorum campaign, ensuring safer and easier travel for passengers heading to Metro Manila.
Under the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), the operations from November 2023 to April 1st of this year resulted in fines totaling 103.9 million imposed on colorum or out-of-line vehicles for violations.
Colorum and out-of-line vehicles, lacking permits and insurance, pose a significant risk to passengers in the event of accidents. Recent data show that a majority of vehicles involved in accidents and road crashes fall into this category, highlighting a longstanding issue for the government.
Through the sustained efforts of SAICT, led by DOTr Secretary and SAICT head Jaime Bautista, along with Assistant Secretary for Road Transport Non-Infrastructure and Vice Chairman of SAICT Jose Lim IV, passenger safety and convenience are being prioritized through the intensified campaign.
