THE European Union has urged Venezuela to reconsider its decision to bar int’l observers, including those from the EU, from monitoring the upcoming presidential elections.
Venezuela had previously invited the EU to observe the elections.
However, Venezuelan authorities, including Council Head Elvis Amoroso, have expressed reservations, citing what they describe as “neocolonialist and interventionist practices” by the EU against Venezuela.
Amoroso was quoted in a local interview saying, “they are not people who deserve to come to this country, while maintaining their economic sanctions.”

The EU, on the other hand, has reminded Venezuela that the invitation for international election observation was established through an agreement signed between Venezuelan authorities and members of the opposition.
