THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) proudly participated in the launch of Live the Dream 2, a book celebrating the world’s only all-women team to traverse Mt. Everest — featuring brave Filipina mountaineers, that took place in Makati City on 17 May 2025.
Said Filipina mountaineers are Commander Carina Dayondon PCG and Petty Officer First Class Noelle Wenceslao Penetrante PCG, both proud and dedicated members of the PCG.
This undertaking is a testament to President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. pursuit of sharing stories of remarkable women that will bring inspiration to many.
The remarkable journey began in 2004, when the PCG committed its full support to a group of trailblazing women athletes. With faith in their discipline, teamwork, and courage, the PCG empowered these Filipinas to take on what was once considered impossible: conquering the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest point on Earth.
More than a mountaineering story, Live the Dream 2, authored by former Undersecretary Arturo T Valdez, chronicles a gripping account of survival in extreme conditions, life-or-death decisions in the notorious “Death Zone,” and the unbreakable spirit required to overcome immense challenges. The book draws powerful parallels between these high-altitude triumphs and the demanding nature of Coast Guard missions.
This historic achievement stands as a testament to the extraordinary capabilities of coastguardians—demonstrating that even far from the sea, they exemplify peak physical conditioning, mental resilience, and unwavering dedication to mission success.
Also present during the event were Deputy Commandant for Operations, Vice Admiral Edgar Ybañez PCG; Acting Deputy Commandant for Administration, Vice Admiral Joven Fabul PCG; Commander, Maritime Safety Services Command, Vice Admiral Joseph Coyme PCG; and Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Human Resource Management, CG-1, Commodore Glide Gene Mary Sontillanosa PCG.
