Filipino-Thai Street Festival in Makati celebrates cultural exchange and friendship

EXQUISITE cuisine, vibrant clothing, amidst a bustling crowd eager to experience the some of the cultural treasures of the Philippines and Thailand.

These are the lively scenes in the street food festival on Rada-Thailand street, Makati, over the weekend.

Attendees were also treated to a Songkran dance and a live cooking demonstration, which added to the festive atmosphere of the festival.

The Thailand Embassy in the Philippines held the street food festival in Makati City over the weekend as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both nations.

Many people lined up to get a taste of Thailand’s and Philippines’ delicious cuisines and admire the beautiful clothing.

According to Thai Ambassador Tull Traisorat, the booths were also carefully arranged to promote the culture and friendship of the two countries.

“The way we arranged the booths is Thai-PH, Thai-PH, it’s not Thai on one side, Ph on other side. This one is a first in a series. Harmony between Thailand and Philippines,” said H.E. Tull Traisorat, Thailand Ambassador to the Philippines.

One of the festival’s standout features is the Som Tam cooking demonstration presented by Mrs. ASEAN International 2023, Gayle Poonphawee, a special dish that holds a special place in Thai cuisine.

Poonphawee also shared her appreciation for the similarities between the Philippines and Thailand.

Filipinos and Thais also built a strong foundation in other areas including trade, investment, and tourism.

With the success of the first-ever street festival, Ambassador Traisorat hopes that this will evolve into a larger event, fostering increased tourist exchange between the Philippines and Thailand.

The diplomatic ties between Thailand and the Philippines were established on June 14, 1949. The Thailand Embassy is poised to host another landmark event on the very same date. Stay tuned as we celebrate and honor the warm friendship between both nations.
