Flipper zero: Australian police says device could hack cars, home security systems

THE Queensland Police issued a recent warning about hackers cloning car information to gain access to vehicles and garage doors through the Flipper Zero device and similar tools.

Founded in 2019, Flipper Zero consists of capabilities such as scanning pet microchips, copying a garage door key, controlling television, and accessing digital accounts, to name a few.

A Superintendent for Queensland Police said the device could scan and copy electronic car keys and swipe cards, making it a potential hacking tool that will allow thieves to break into cars and homes with the click of a button.

Authorities also warned of its ability to open garage doors, steal card information, and crash phones with Bluetooth spamming,

Despite its potential to be used for illegal purposes, Flipper Zero is currently legal in Australia and can be purchased online without any security checks.

The device has gained a reputation overseas for its role in car thefts, particularly in the US and the UK.

Brazil and Canada were among the few countries to have banned Flipper Zero.

Queensland Police made the warning after some of its personnel recently seized a Flipper Zero device and warned Australians to keep their vehicles safe.

Meanwhile, Russian Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Alex Kulagin said he had heard so many controversies thrown by Western media about Flipper Zero but said the device only exposes how the world’s security systems depend on an outdated and easily hacked technology.
