FPRRD backs Cha-Cha; says no extra term for PBBM, current gov’t officials

THE term of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., along with the current government officials, should not exceed a single term or six years if amendments are made to the Constitution.

Duterte said this regarding the proposed Charter Change during the Maisug Walk and prayer rally in Cebu City on Sunday.

‘‘I support it. I mean I would support any changes in the Constitution that would enhance, improve, or whatever would make the Filipinos happy, I am for it. No problem. As long as there are no hidden interests for their benefit,’’ according to Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

According to Former President Duterte, this is because Marcos can only serve for one term under the current Constitution.

The former president reminded Marcos not to repeat what happened during his father’s time when the Constitution was amended, leading to his two-decade-long stay in power.

‘‘Don’t mess with it because if you do what Marcos [Sr.] did, except for the bad part because there was none, and this is not really to make any challenge to the President. It’s just a constant reminder until it gets prolonged. After looking at the difficulty, he might declare Martial Law. So, we had to endure almost twenty years with just one person without any voting,’’ Former President Duterte said.

Duterte to Marcos: I support him because he’s kind

But Duterte clarified that he has no problem with Marcos and even praised the President for being kind.

‘‘[Pres.] Bongbong [Marcos] is a good person. I really have no problem with the President. Honestly, I support him because he is kind compared to me,’’ Former President Duterte added.

Duterte to Marcos: Just finish your journey

Duterte’s words are in contrast to the first prayer rally in Davao City, amid the issue of alleged payment for signatures for the People’s Initiative (PI), wherein the former president called Marcos a drug addict.

The president did not directly respond to this, but Duterte also said that he supports PBBM and advised him to be content with his current leadership.

So, I continue to support him. Just— I don’t know how his term would end,’’ Duterte said.

‘‘The problem, Mister President, is to be comfortable and be content with where you are now. Just finish your journey, then let go and let the Constitution work. Because if you try to [amend] because you want to change the president’s term, that’s when we’ll have chaos again,’’ he added.
