AT Seatrade Cruise Asia 2024, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco outlined the Philippines’ vision to become a premier sustainable cruise destination in Asia under the Marcos Administration.
Balancing growth with cultural preservation and environmental protection, Frasco echoed the President’s call for not only improving ports but also preserving and sustaining development in the islands to ensure a cruise industry that benefits both local communities and travelers.
Frasco underscored the Philippines’ efforts to make cruise destinations more accessible, highlighting port projects in key locations like Siargao, Coron, and Boracay, and the Cruise Visa Waiver Program to streamline international entry for tourists.
Frasco noted 2024’s 109 scheduled cruise calls across 40 destinations in the Philippines, from renowned sites like Boracay to hidden gems such as Ticao Island and Culion. These destinations offer travelers an authentic experience of the Philippines’ stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity, and warm, hospitable communities.
“Together with all of you, we embrace the unique potential of Asia’s cruise industry, even as we celebrate the vision for a brighter horizon with Philippines and Asia standing as premier destinations on the world stage,” Frasco concluded.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition of the Philippines as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination, she invited global leaders to partner with the Philippines in building a vibrant, sustainable cruise tourism ecosystem.
