Government preparing New Clark City to become a Philippines’ Sports Hub

THE government is currently developing New Clark City in Tarlac to transform it into a sports hub in the Philippines.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. wants national athletes to have free access to the training facilities of the New Clark City Athletics Stadium and Aquatics Center.

PBBM also shared that the government has established the National Academy of Sports to promote the development of athletes’ skills and talents through a secondary education program.

The President hopes that the National Academy of Sports and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority will expedite the operation of the facilities for the benefit of athletes.

“The learning center and training facility at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac has been built, and we expect the National Academy of Sports and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority to fast-track and operationalize the Academy so that our athletes can immediately pursue their training in their chosen sport,” according to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

PBBM wants to strengthen the Medical Scientific Athlete Services Unit

Marcos has also directed the Philippine Sports Commission to collaborate with PAGCOR and other agencies to strengthen the Medical Scientific Athlete Services Unit of the country to ensure the care of athletes who get injured during training and competitions.

The President stressed the necessity of helping injured athletes recover quickly and return to the game.

PH Government to assist schools in upgrading sports facilities 

Among the government’s other goals is to assist state universities and colleges to improve and refurbish their sports facilities.

The government also aims to explore partnerships with the private sector to build basketball courts in public schools, gyms, and other facilities.

Local government units are also encouraged to support sports development in their respective areas.

Pres. Marcos supports the implementation of Sports Development Plan 2023-2028 by PSC

The President outlined these measures for sports development during the welcome and awarding ceremonies for Filipino medalists at the 19th Asian Games.

He emphasized that his administration will continue to support programs to promote sports development in the country.

Among the programs highlighted by the President is the implementation of the Five-Year Sports Development Plan 2023-2028.

The Chief Executive stated that the Philippine Sports Commission will implement the said plan to address the long-standing concerns of Filipino athletes.

“This Plan aims to address the long-standing concerns of Filipino athletes by encouraging participation in all levels of government and the private sector, ensuring – to ensure that we have support for our athletes, our sports associations, and to improve everyone involved in sports at every level,” President Marcos said.

The government also assured continued support for Filipino athletes in various international sporting events.

The President also called on influential donors and individuals with resources to continue helping Filipino athletes.
