IN preparation for the expected influx of travelers during the observance of Holy Week, the heads of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Bureau of Immigration (BI), and the executives of the New NAIA Infra Corp., the company that now operates and maintains the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), join forces in inspecting the country’s main gateway in Pasay City, Thursday (April 10).
This, following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to inspect terminals, ports, and airports to ensure no delays in operations before the approaching Holy Week.
The inspection was led by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and NNIC officials, Vice President Cecile Ang, General Manager Lito Alvarez, and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines.
In a press conference, the tourism chief lauded the significant changes made to the airport since the takeover of the new San Miguel Corporation-led consortium that would better the operations at NAIA.
“I’d like to thank Secretary Vince, Secretary Hans, and NNIC, the leadership of the MIAA, and everyone who has given us a very comprehensive overview of all the improvements that have been put in to make sure that every touch point of our tourists and local travelers going through this airport is well taken care of. My observation is that the customer comes first in these changes that have been put in. In other words, there is much attention given to the experience of going through this gateway, and this is very critical for the success of any tourism endeavor. So we’re grateful for this partnership,” she said.
For its part, the DOT has issued advisories to its regional offices to anticipate the high volume of passengers across the regions.
“We are also anticipating a high volume of passengers to go through all the gateways in the country, especially this one, and therefore, the Department of Tourism has already issued its advisories to our respective regional offices to activate their operation centers for purposes of ensuring proper coordination and oversight of our tourism destinations,” she said.
“So, we look forward to all of these changes that have begun and will continue to come under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, who has, from the very start, articulated that the tourism and the majority, the whole of the nation, must work together to ensure that the experience of being in and going around the Philippines improves over all,” she noted.
