HUNGARIAN Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the European Union (EU) cheated his country.
He made this shocking revelation during the opening autumn session of the Hungarian parliament.
And on September 29th, the Hungarian President posted a video of his speech on X, formerly known as Twitter, to address the matter.
Orban talked about how his country opened a solidarity corridor to allow Ukrainian grain to be shipped to African countries, however, these grains had been sold in his country for lower prices, affecting local farmers.
Orban’s remarks came after Ukraine filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization against Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia for banning imports of Ukrainian grain.
Ukraine to conditionally withdraw WTO complaint against EU grain embargo
But recently, Ukraine has agreed to conditionally withdraw the said complaint, which arose from these EU countries’ decisions to continue the embargo on Ukraine’s grain exports.
Taras Kachka, Ukraine’s trade representative and deputy economy minister, announced that the withdrawal is contingent upon assurances from the three nations that they will not impose similar restrictions on Ukrainian grain exports in the future.
While the European Commission initially banned grain exports to certain EU nations, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia continued the embargo, prompting Ukraine’s WTO complaint on September 18.
Ukraine alleges that these bans constitute a violation of international obligations by its EU neighbors.
Meanwhile, Poland has taken a strong stance in the grain dispute, and recently, the Polish Government announced that the country will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine.
