Intensifying Israeli airstrikes force thousands to flee from Lebanon to Syria

FRIDAY Israeli airstrike targeted areas near the Lebanon-Syria border, further worsening the situation for those attempting to flee.

The airstrike destroyed critical roads and highways, leaving refugees no choice but to continue their journey on foot through damaged terrain.

Large craters left by the bombings have hindered their progress, compounding the already difficult conditions.

Mohammad, a refugee fleeing from southern Lebanon with his children, described the devastation in his hometown:

“The situation in southern Lebanon is horrible. Many places have been severely destroyed and are no longer suitable for living. I am bringing my kids to flee from bombings,” said Mohammad, Refugee, Lebanon.

He and others like him have embarked on a perilous journey, passing through Syria on their way to Iraq.

“The road here was destroyed, and we can only walk through,” Mohammad.

According to Syrian media, around 91,000 Lebanese refugees have fled to Syria, with approximately 3,000 managing to cross the border on Monday despite the airstrike. Humanitarian organizations, including the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, UNHCR, and other NGOs, have mobilized near the border to assist those arriving from Lebanon. However, aid delivery has also been disrupted by the ongoing airstrikes, leaving vital medical and emergency supplies stranded outside the conflict zone.

As the conflict intensifies, the number of displaced people is expected to grow, with refugees forced to navigate increasingly dangerous conditions. Humanitarian agencies continue to work under challenging circumstances, offering support to those fleeing, even as the crisis deepens.
