Iran launches ballistic missile from warship for first time

IRAN once again showed off its maritime influence and might after it fired a ballistic missile from a deck of a container ship earlier this week.

The missile successfully hit a target site in a desert in central Iran. Open-source intelligence analysts have identified it as a Dezful medium-range ballistic missile but the local media described it as a “long range.”

The missile has a range of over 1000 kilometers and can hit targets at a speed of Mach 7 or about 8,643 kilometers per hour, according to the Iranian armed forces.

A day after the test launch, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out an exercise that simulated a strike on a major Israeli air base.

The war game recreated Israel’s Palmachim airbase south of Tel Aviv which houses fighter jets and receives wounded Israeli soldiers for treatment.

The Islamic Republic once again showed off its naval influence amid brewing tensions with the United States as Houthi rebels disrupt global trade in the Red Sea by attacking commercial vessels the group believes are linked or en route to Israel.
