THOUSANDS of Iranians took part in marches through major streets and squares nationwide to mark the 45th Anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The pro-government rallies showed Iranians waving flags, carrying placards, and chanting slogans, mostly against the United States and Israel.
Many high-ranking officials including Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi were present.
The military displayed a range of missiles, satellite carrier, and drones in Azadi Square.
Iran’s state media claimed that “millions”, and not thousands, participated in the nationwide rallies.
The 1979 Revolution saw the toppling of the US-backed government led by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi who was the former ruler and last Shah of Iran.
The revolution led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the same year.
