THE ministry of foreign affairs confirmed that Malaysian Everest 2023 climber Muhammad Hawari Hashim is missing from Camp 4 after conquering the top of the world’s highest mountain.
According to their Facebook post, Hawari was in the first group to reach the summit, with Kedah Civil Defense Force Director Lt. Col. Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub, however, Awang Askandar died in the ascent just before reaching the summit of Mt. Everest.
This was confirmed by expedition leader Azim Afif Ishak that he was missing while they were resting in their tent at Camp 4.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Awang’s remains are scheduled to be flown to Kathmandu by helicopter.
The Malaysia Expedition 2023 includes 3 climbers and a support team.
The expedition was organized by Malaysia Altitude Exploration 2023, which began the 2-month mission that started on April 2 until June 2 with the help of the government of Malaysia and the youth and sports ministry.
The mission aimed to promote unity and build a better nation through ethnic diversity.
However, the team has been trying to locate Hawari using a chartered helicopter.
