PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim arrived on Tuesday to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 in West Manggarai City in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
The Malaysian Prime Minister was welcomed by Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi together with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Datuk Zambry, who arrived in Indonesia on May 8, attended three meetings together with other foreign ministers.
According to him, this is the first time PM Anwar is attending the top ASEAN leader’s meeting as prime minister.
Earlier, Datuk Zambry said the prime minister will also chair the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area Summit and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Summit.
He said these two summits will strengthen cooperation aiming to increase cross-border activities to increase the value of trade and investment in the regions.
The 42nd ASEAN Summit is expected to produce several documents, such as the ASEAN leaders’ statement on strengthening ASEAN institutions and the ASEAN post-2025 vision.
The said leaders will also discuss human trafficking cases, the protection of migrant workers during crises, health, electric vehicle ecosystems, and the development of ASEAN village networks.
