MARINA receives Wind Vane Award from DOST-PAGASA

THE Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) was honored with the Wind Vane Award by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) on 21 March 2025, in Quezon City.

MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan accepted the award, emphasizing the crucial role of accurate weather forecasts in ship operations and navigational safety.

She highlighted MARINA’s partnership with PAGASA in disaster preparedness, marine weather services, and the implementation of the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028.

MARINA also commended PAGASA for its innovative oil spill trajectory modeling, which significantly aided response efforts during maritime incidents like the MV Terranova case.

Furthermore, PAGASA’s active participation in the recent International Maritime Organization (IMO) Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS) was instrumental in demonstrating the country’s commitment to maritime safety, particularly in the effective implementation of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended.

Administrator Malaluan reaffirmed MARINA’s commitment to a safer, greener, and more sustainable maritime industry through continued collaboration with key agencies such as PAGASA.
