Medical mission in Sarangani Province vital healthcare services to indigenous communities

IN a bid to address healthcare disparities and provide essential medical services to underserved communities, a team of dedicated volunteers from the Doctor of Medicine Program embarked on a medical mission under the SINAG Program. The program, which stands for π™Žπ™ͺπ™¨π™©π™–π™žπ™£π™–π™—π™‘π™š π™„π™£π™©π™šπ™§π™«π™šπ™£π™©π™žπ™€π™£π™¨ 𝙛𝙀𝙧 π˜Όπ™˜π™˜π™šπ™‘π™šπ™§π™–π™©π™žπ™£π™œ 𝙂𝙧𝙀𝙬𝙩𝙝, held the activity on Feb. 27, 2024, in 𝘚π˜ͺ𝘡π˜ͺ𝘰 π˜’π˜ͺ𝘡𝘣𝘰𝘨, π˜”π˜’π˜π˜Άπ˜―π˜¨π˜°π˜―, 𝘚𝘒𝘳𝘒𝘯𝘨𝘒𝘯π˜ͺ π˜—π˜³π˜°π˜·π˜ͺ𝘯𝘀𝘦.

The venue, situated amidst the scenic beauty of the mountains, became the focal point for a day of compassionate care and support. The beneficiaries, numbering over 200 individuals, predominantly hailed from the indigenous 𝘽’𝙑𝙖𝙖𝙣 π™©π™§π™žπ™—π™š, highlighting the mission’s crucial role in reaching marginalized populations.

Led by the JMCFI College of Medicine faculty members and supported by enthusiastic students, the medical mission aimed to address various health needs prevalent in the community. Services offered encompassed different healthcare provisions, including health education sessions, free patient consultations, distribution of essential medicines, and nourishing food supplies.

The remote location of 𝐒𝐒𝐭𝐒𝐨 πŠπ’ππ›π¨π  often poses significant challenges for residents to access adequate healthcare services. Hence, the SINAG Program’s intervention proved invaluable in bridging this gap, bringing healthcare directly to those who need it most. By offering free consultations and medications, the mission not only alleviated immediate health concerns but also empowered individuals with knowledge to make informed decisions about their well-being.

The impact of the medical mission extended beyond the provision of medical care. It served as a platform for cultural exchange and solidarity, fostering deeper connections between the volunteers and the indigenous communities they served. Amidst the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes, bonds of compassion and understanding were forged, transcending barriers of language and culture.
