NASA, private aerospace company shows new spacesuit prototype

AS part of United States‘ aim for humans to return to the moon, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), together with the aerospace company Axiom Space, has showed a new prototype of spacesuit that will give a better protection for the astronauts.

Compared to those bulky suits worn by the Apollo astronauts who first set foot on the lunar surface more than 50 years ago, the pressurized suit has multiple protective layers, has a backpack with life-support systems, lights and a high definition camera placed on top of the bubble-shaped helmet.

The Axiom Space has described the backpack attached to the suit as a portable life support system as it has all the parts and the components to keep the astronaut alive.

The spacesuit itself has multiple layers, the inner layer called a bladder that holds the air inside like a balloon and a confined layer that allows it to stay in its shape.

Also, the final version of the suit will keep the traditional white to reflect heat from the sun and protect astronauts from the temperatures of the severe lunar conditions.

The said spacesuit prototype is expected to be worn by the astronauts that will be sent to the moon in 2025 via the artemis 3 space program.
