THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed a new 437-square-meter, two-storey, four-classroom building at Calagundian Elementary School (CES) in Barangay Aduas Norte, Cabanatuan City.

District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan noted that prior to the project, the school experienced frequent flooding, even during moderate rainfall, which disrupted classes and damaged students’ learning materials.

“To address this, the new building was constructed on an elevated foundation, raising it by one meter to prevent flood water from affecting classrooms and ensure a safer, more resilient learning space,” District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan explained.

Reinforcing this, OIC-Assistant District Engineer Leonora Cruz underscored the significance of the project, stating that a conducive learning environment is essential for quality education, and this initiative helps provide that stability for CES students.

Meanwhile, School Head Gerleeh Sacdal expressed gratitude for the new facility, highlighting that the classrooms—fitted with blackboards, ceiling fans, and essential safety features, including a fire exit and fire safety equipment—offer a comfortable and secure space for students, encouraging them to focus on their studies.

Funded through the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF), the P14.7-million project enhances the school’s capacity to provide quality education in a safe environment.
