NORTH Korean Leader Kim Jong Un was seen supervising the test launch of a new hypersonic intermediate-range missiles at an undisclosed location on Wednesday.
Kim inspected the R.B.M Hwasongpo sixteen bee rocket and watched the launch from an observation tower.
The country’s state media report said Kim was accompanied by the general director of the missile administration Jang Chang Ha and the vice director of the Party Munitions Industry Department Kim Jong Shik, the country’s top officials in missile development.
The missile travelled around one thousand kilometers according to state media reports.
However, South Korea and Japan claimed that it flew around 600 kilometers, which is 400 kilometers less than North Korea reported.
Hwasong sixteen bee is a new-type intermediate-range solid propellant ballistic missile loaded with a newly-developed hypersonic gliding flight warhead, according to North Korean statements.
South Korea, Japan, and the US have condemned the missile launch, declaring it a threat to regional peace and stability.
North Korea’s state media stated that the missile test ‘had no negative effect on neighboring countries,’ as the rocket landed in the sea without flying over Japan as in past launches.
