SEVERAL well-known personalities filed their COCs for Congress on Monday at COMELEC-NCR.
Rose Nono Lin was the first to file for the 5th District of Quezon City.
Lin is the wife of Allan Lim, who is involved in illegal POGO operations and illegal drugs.
Lin declined to answer media questions regarding her husband’s involvement in the issue.
Senator Cynthia Aguilar Villar then followed, filing her candidacy as a representative of Las Piñas City.
Accompanying the Senator were her family members, including former Senator Manny Villar, Senator Mark, and Camille.
The Senator will continue her advocacy related to agriculture, the environment, and helping her constituents with livelihood projects, infrastructure, housing, and environmental protection.
“I’m ending my term in the Senate in 2025, and I thought that in Congress, I could continue my advocacy for agriculture and the environment. At the same time, I can help my constituents with more livelihood projects, infrastructure, housing, and environmental protection, especially regarding flooding,” according to Sen. Cynthia Villar.
A college professor and former soldier, Pedro Castillo Dela Cruz, filed his candidacy for Congress in the 1st District of Taguig.
One of his opponents for the position is former Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano.
Atty. Silverio Raymundo Garing aims to establish a public hospital in Muntinlupa City if he gets elected to Congress. Garing has also filed his COC as the representative of Muntinlupa under PDP-Laban.
Incumbent 2nd District Representative Gus Tambunting filed his candidacy for his same position.
He will be facing Bicol Party List Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan for the role.
1st District Parañaque Rep. Edwin Olivarez supports his brother, who has filed his candidacy to succeed him, Mayor Eric Olivarez.
The Mayor’s advocacy focuses on health, as he is a registered nurse.
Meanwhile, Former Marikina 2nd District Rep. Romero “Miro” Federico Quimbo will again run for the same position.
He will replace his wife, incumbent Congresswoman Stella Quimbo.
Rep. Stella is running for Mayor of Marikina.
Incumbent Congressman Tony Calixto of the Lone District of Pasay is also running for the same position again.
He has filed his COC with the Regional Elections Director – NCR in San Juan today, October 7, 2024.
Former Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has supported the COC filing of former Manila 5th District Representative Amado Bagatsing, who is running again for the same position.
Meanwhile, several others have also filed their COCs for Congress, including Donn Carlo Buencamino Favis for the 2nd District of Marikina, Ricardo Samonte Cruz Jr. for the 1st District of Taguig, Jorge Daniel Sison Bocobo for the 2nd District of Taguig, and lastly, Minnie Alfar Antonio for the 1st District of Makati.
In the meantime, here’s a reminder from Atty. Jovencio G. Balanquit, Assistant Regional Election Director of COMELEC – NCR, regarding the last day of CoC filing.
“My reminder is that they can file early to have their COC checked so we can see what else they need to do,” said Atty. Jovencio G. Balanquit, Assistant Regional Election Director ng COMELEC-NCR.
“Because they might have to return to correct the entries, and they might not make it, but we are still open until five o’clock,” he added.
