PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, graced the Inauguration and Blessing Ceremony of Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) Headquarters located at Sitio San Ramon, Barangay Talisayan, Zamboanga City, yesterday, 05 December 2024.
“I am very grateful. I see the reality to a dream we have made seven years ago,” Admiral Gavan PCG stated.
According to the CGDSWM, the vision for the headquarters was first conceived in 2017, when then-Captain Gavan, serving as CGDSWM District Commander, who recognized the need for a permanent, operational base in the region.
After six years, Admiral Gavan, serving as Deputy Commandant for Administration, spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony in August 2023.
And today, as the Coast Guard Commandant, he was able to stand at the helm of a project — a vision into reality.
CGDSWM District Commander, Commodore Marco Antonio Gines PCG, expressed pride in the accomplishment, noting that the facility will significantly enhance the Coast Guard’s capacity to respond to maritime emergencies, enforce laws, and protect the waters of the region.
“I am privileged of leading the project in my tenure as the District Commander, transitioning it from a concept, to construction, and now to its successful completion,” Commodore Gines PCG remarked.
The inauguration event also highlighted the remarkable progress of six simultaneous construction projects within the complex.
The CGDSWM said the project was supported by Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority (ZCSEZA) Chairman Auxiliary Commodore Regondola PCGA as the implementing agency. Meanwhile, the BENDIMIL Construction and Development Corporation, led by Engr. Raymond Dimaano, executed the construction.
“This modern facility not only strengthens the PCG’s operational capacity but also reinforces its commitment to safeguarding the region’s maritime interests. With this new headquarters, the Coast Guard is better equipped to uphold the security and well-being of the Zamboanga Peninsula and beyond,” the District furthered.
